What Is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based, trauma-focused therapy that helps the brain process distressing memories in a way that reduces emotional pain, fear, and physical reactions. ART uses guided eye movements (similar to EMDR) to help your brain naturally reorganize how difficult experiences are stored—so they no longer feel as intense, overwhelming, or controlling in your day-to-day life.

Many people seek ART for trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, phobias, or distressing life events that continue to impact their thoughts, emotions, or sense of safety.

How Can ART Help Me?
ART can help you:
-
Feel less emotionally triggered by past experiences
-
Reduce anxiety, fear, and intrusive thoughts
-
Improve emotional regulation and sense of control
-
Gain relief without needing to relive or describe traumatic details
-
Replace distressing images or sensations with calmer, more empowering ones
ART is designed to be gentle, structured, and client-directed. You remain in control throughout the process, and sessions move at a pace that feels safe for you.
How Is ART Similar to EMDR?
ART and EMDR both use eye movements to help the brain process unresolved experiences. The key difference is that ART places a strong emphasis on imagery replacement, allowing clients to intentionally change how distressing memories are stored, often without extended verbal processing.
Many clients find ART to be:

-
Less emotionally intense
-
More structured and predictable
-
Easier to tolerate than traditional trauma therapies
-
Both approaches are effective; the best option depends on your comfort level, goals, and therapeutic needs.
What Does an ART Session Look Like?
ART sessions focus on:
-
Identifying the distressing memory or experience
-
Using guided eye movements to reduce emotional intensity
-
Supporting your brain in creating a more adaptive, calmer response

You are never required to share graphic details, and therapy is always collaborative and consent-based.
ART Session Pricing

Accelerated Resolution Therapy sessions are $200 per session and are 90 minutes long to allow adequate time for processing and closure. ART is typically offered as a self-pay service due to extended session length. Insurance is accepted though session may be reduced to 60 minutes cutting experience short. Superbilling is available for out-of-network reimbursement.
Is ART Right for Me?
ART may be a good fit if you:
-
Feel “stuck” despite insight or talk therapy
-
Want trauma-focused work without rehashing details
-
Are looking for relief that feels structured and contained
If you’re unsure, ART can be discussed during an initial session to determine if it aligns with your goals and needs.
